In 5 days you’ll have plenty of time to explore Istanbul without rushing, enjoying its historical, cultural and culinary wonders. This itinerary will let you have an experience full of discoveries, without giving up the comfort and calm of travelling by campervan. If you only have a few days, this is the perfect way to discover the best of the city, without missing any of its most iconic gems and without emptying your wallet.

Day 1: Arrival and first taste of the city

• Morning: Arrival in Istanbul and check-in at Yenikapi Caravan RV Park  , a well-located campsite to start your adventure. From here, take the metro, which will get you to the centre in under 20 minutes. (guide in Italian)
• Afternoon: Stroll around Taksim Square, the beating heart of Istanbul. Walk along Istiklal Caddesi, one of the liveliest pedestrian streets, full of shops, galleries and outdoor cafés.
• Evening: Dinner in the area, with the chance to try the famous simit (sesame bread) or a plate of köfte (Turkish meatballs) at one of the many local restaurants.

Day 2: A dive into history and views over Istanbul

• Morning: Visit the majestic Blue Mosque, one of Istanbul’s icons. Admire the blue mosaics decorating the interior and enjoy the peacefulness of the place.
• Afternoon: Discover the Galata Tower and go up to its panoramic viewpoint (paid), where you’ll get a breathtaking view over the city and the Bosphorus.
• Evening: An evening stroll in Karaköy, a trendy neighbourhood where you can discover cafés and restaurants with a unique view over the city.

Day 3: Markets and authentic neighbourhoods

• Morning: Visit the Egyptian Bazaar, the Spice Market, where you can enjoy a sensory experience of smells, colours and sounds. It’s not just a place to shop, but also a chance to immerse yourself in Turkish culture.
• Afternoon: Cross the Bosphorus by (almost free) ferry to reach Üsküdar, the district on the Asian shore. Stroll among its temples, gardens and waterfront, enjoying the view of the European side of the city.
• Evening: Return to Istanbul for a traditional dinner at one of the restaurants in the Sultanahmet district.

Day 4: Ottoman history and relaxation

• Morning: Visit the Süleymaniye Mosque, one of Istanbul’s largest and most splendid mosques. Discover its Ottoman architecture and relax in the surrounding park.
• Afternoon: A stroll through the Süleymaniye district, where you can explore less touristy alleys and discover everyday life in Istanbul.
• Evening: Dinner with a sunset view, perhaps at one of the restaurants offering traditional dishes like meze or kebab.

Day 5: extra paid attractions

• Morning: Visit Hagia Sophia and Topkapi Palace. Admission is paid at both sites, at a price that’s really quite steep.
