When you travel through Morocco you immediately think of tajine and couscous, but if, like us, you’re pizza lovers, and especially if you’re staying in a foreign country for 4 months.. at some point the search gets serious, in the hunt for a slice worthy of scorching your palate.

So here’s an article dedicated to her majesty pizza, personally tasted in Morocco.

A disappointing pizza is never a pleasant experience. That’s why our search was pretty thorough, and we’re happy to list, in no particular order, a small handful of places we’d go back to immediately.

We deliberately ordered the classic margherita and we’ll leave you a review, a photo, an address. In short, everything you might need if you too find yourself in this country in less touristy (and more authentic) areas and get hit by an irresistible craving for that dish whose name is understood in every language in the world, Pizza!

Ready to discover 4 truly delicious pizzas in Morocco with us? Our mouths are watering just remembering them.

🍕 Le Rital, Tetouan:

Service: excellent! The whole staff is kind and friendly, and speaks a bit of English, French or Spanish.

Location: a two-storey place, very clean, with a large parking area out front (where you can stay overnight for free if, like us, you’re travelling by campervan).

Menu: besides pizza, served in M or L sizes, you’ll also find sandwiches (with cheese baked right into the bread dough!) and tacos.

Price: genuinely fair, 25 Dh for a medium margherita, 40 Dh for a large. Worth noting: every day there’s a discount promotion if you order 3 margheritas (59 Dh for three medium ones, 99 Dh for three large ones).

THE PIZZA: well-risen dough, cooked in a wood-fired oven, thin with a good crust. Perfect amount of toppings, and a good tomato sauce. One of those pizzas you’d love even in Italy.

What can we say, we went back two nights later, we liked it so much! And we’d go back again, and again, and again!

📍 Local 1, Résidence ÉLÉGANCE, Av. 9 Avril, Tétouan 93000

🍕 Positano, Fez:

Service: the host waiter is very kind and speaks good English.

Location: a very elegant new place, in a slightly out-of-the-way part of the city, with parking available on the street out front.

Menu: besides pizza, you’ll also find salads, burgers and pasta dishes. They offer a starter of olive and pesto dips paired with fresh bread, along with still water.

Price: the margherita costs 40 Dh, great value for money.

THE PIZZA: excellent quality ingredients. Thin, well-cooked pizza with a delicious crust. We were truly satisfied. If we really have to nitpick: the basil leaf was left whole instead of roughly torn.

📍 Champs de course, 47, Fes 30000

🍕 Snack pizzeria slimane, Ouaouizeght:

Service: the host waiter is very kind, and the owner also speaks English.

Location: a spacious two-storey place, clean, facing the street.

Menu: besides pizza, you’ll also find pasta dishes.

Price: the margherita costs 22 Dh, a great price given the slightly smaller size.

THE PIZZA: the dough has semolina mixed in, which pairs perfectly with the flavours of the other ingredients. It rises well and the pizza stays a bit thicker, but not chewy. It’s served with extra spicy and sweet-and-sour sauces on the side.

📍 واويزغت Ouaouizeght

🍕 Portorico, Dakhla:

Service: the whole staff is very kind, and they also speak French.

Location: a cute, tastefully decorated place, centrally located with convenient parking nearby.

Menu: besides pizza, there are also plenty of other dishes.

Price: the margherita costs 38 Dh.

THE PIZZA: the dough is well-risen and well-cooked, the pizza stays thin, though it’s a shame the crust loses its softness. Good toppings. All in all, a good pizza!

📍 100 Boulevard Mohamed V, Dakhla 73000

Now tell us about you! Are you team pizza-abroad, or do you prefer eating only local food? As for us, after 4 months in Africa, we admit we just couldn’t give it up!

If you ever visit these places, take a selfie and tag us, it’s a shame we can’t sit at the table together! 😊
